Kick-Ass 2010
I am pretty sure that someone had shown me the trailer for this movie a LONG time ago but I had brushed it off. Watching another trailer about a month before this movie came out, I started to get excited. This was one of the few movies that I really wanted to watch and anticipated so far this year. It just looked funny and that is what exactly what I had not seen in a while.
Kick-Ass kind of drags a bit at the beginning of the movie and really starts to nag on your patience for something interesting to happen. Although the movie has a slightly slow start once the action happens it starts to move pretty fast. Knowing that the movie was built around a super hero persona I knew that they would start to move things similar to a comic book. Well that is pretty much exactly what they did, whether it be the action or the story it was all tied to those roots.
The action in Kick-Ass was pretty good for an action comedy. One of the things that stood out to me about the action was the difference between the main character, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), and the other 2 “super heroes”, Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). While Dave Lizewski was basically some nerd that had nothing better to do than be a nerd he was really just that some kid trying to Kick some Ass. While he tried, he just ends up getting his ass kicked. Then you have Hit Girl and Big Daddy which are really just normal people but in the movie they seem to have skills that only a comic book hero would have. The one thing that about the general feel of the movie and how the action plays out, it reminded me of Pineapple Express.
The comedy in the movie was pretty funny. Though not exactly the funniest in the world it did make you laugh. It falls to the side when the action parts of the movie pick up or when an important part in the story is trying to poke it’s head through. I would not say it was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen but it was totally worth the watch for the comedy and action.
If you know me, you know that I really do not like Nicolas Cage. The guy has not turned a good movie out since Con Air or Faceoff. He plays in shit movies and his acting reflects this. With saying that, I have to say that with out him being a main character in the movie he did a decent job in this movie. He still sucked though, but that is my opinion.
As always go see Kick-Ass yourself. Make sure you do not go in to this movie expecting to be slapping your knees the whole time or gripping the seat because of the action. Overall you will be pleased.

Yes that is correct there will be an Avatar 2. There is no set date to when the movie will be coming out if at all anywhere in the near future but it will be coming out. James Cameron has been caught talking about the second film recently. He had mentioned that the film will not be focused on the rain forest setting that we are all familiar with but more on the marine life on Pandora. Along with that he has also mentioned that the film is basically setting up for a third one. What does that mean for us? Well it means that it will be a piece of shit. Ohh yeah, did I mention he was going to try to do it with less than half the original budget and half the time frame as the first?
Historically from my point of view second films that set up for a third and done with a smaller budget just come out like crap. There always seems to be to much back fill to the movie and people just get lost in all the random information being thrown at them. I know story is important but the only real reason people see this crap is for the special effects and action. Seriously, how deep is the average avatar fan?
Straight from the horses’ mouth:
“We created a broad canvas for the environment of film. That’s not just on Pandora, but throughout the Aplha Centauri AB system. And we expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story – not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film. I’ve already announced this, so I might as well say it: Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.”

James Cameron
Now about this Avatar theatrical re-release. It is supposed to be an EXTENDED version by 6 MINS! Yes that is correct they are re-releasing it based on 6 mins. I understand that some people did not get to see it in theater or want to see the movie again but really do they need to put this in the theater again? You can expect people will be cramming in line willing to give up their hard earned $14 to see this movie, just to see those elusive 6 mins. This is scheduled to be coming out towards the end of summer. Cameron also did mention that part of the reason it was coming back to theatres was because the movie was moved out of the box office due to other 3-D movies coming out, i.e. Clash of the Titans (Dumb Movie).
One more note, Avatar will be coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD tomorrow April 22, 2010 EARTH DAY! There is also a special edition 4-disc set that will be coming out but not until around November, which I am sure will have those dumb 6 mins.

Ninja Assassin 2009
Do you like modern Kung Fu movies? I am sure everyone at one point in their life has liked at least 1 or 2 Kung Fu movies. Ninja Assassin takes the whole Kung Fu mentality to a different level in the sense that it is really out there. When you watch the fight scenes they are almost as if they wanted to rip the mentality off of Kill Bill. TONS of blood just as if Quentin Tarantino had directed this film. Do not get me wrong the fight scenes are pretty bad ass.
As for the rest of the movie, lets just say it was complete shit. The story revolves around this orphaned boy that was turned in to a bad ass ninja by this freakin’ crazy ninja that basically runs a death camp. They try to push a love story that is weak as hell considering that the love interest is only part of the story for a total of 5 mins. Long story short he ends up hating this death camp and turns his back on them.
Through out the movie the story flip flops between present day and the past time while he was growing up in the death camp. Which in return makes the main story weak and not there at points in the movie. It is almost as if they wanted to tell a story about a bad ass ninja but could not do it without showing you how he got bad ass. So you end up with a movie more about the past instead of what is happening currently in the movie.
As far as I no there are no recognizable actors or actresses except one guy that was in Tokyo Drift. Other than that I am pretty sure they are all Korean actors. Someone on twitter had pointed this fact out by asking me if I was a Korean girl. Which made me think that these guys might be big over there in their Starcraft films and such.
Overall the action was pretty bad ass but the movie itself lacked quite a bit. No serious story that wanted to progress without seeing some type of flashback and the love portion lacked depth. Just go see it for yourself and I am sure if you are a Korean girl you might like it a bit more than I did.
