Beyond a Reasonable Doubt 2009

Beyond a Reasonable Doubt 2009

Surprise surprise, another movie about dirty cops, dirty lawyers, and overall corruption in the government. The real surprise was that Beyond a Reasonable Doubt was actually fairly decent. Reporter CJ Nicholas’ (Jesse Metcalfe) plan to expose district attorney Mark Hunter (Michael Douglas) for planting dna evidence in order to obtain convictions in 17 murder cases is actually quite ingenious and even believable.

While the performance from the main characters (and by main characters, I mean all the actors whose names and faces you might actually recognize. Jesse Metcalfe, Amber Tamlyn, Joel Moore, Michael Douglas, and Orlando Jones) was really good, a lot of the supporting characters sounded like they were reading off of cue cards. I know they weren’t very important to the story, but they were bad enough to stick in my mind, even after the great, unexpected twist at the end. Your average high school play participant could have provided a more believable performance.

Overall tho, this movie had me eagerly waiting for the next tidbit of information, and even had me guessing, incorrectly, about what was coming next. While I’m still trying to decide if this film is actually worth purchasing, it is definitely worth watching once or twice, if for no other reason, it does have a couple of beautiful faces in it that make it worthwhile.
